Dee’s Place features southern specialties such as fried chicken, smothered pork chops, beef short ribs, barbeque ribs, and chicken with accompaniments of macaroni and cheese, red beans and rice, yams, greens, fried green tomatoes, jalapeno cornbread, homemade peach cobbler, banana pudding, and many more.
People came from all over to enjoy the southern food with a tag line “food for the soul,” but also to enjoy the live jazz, blues, and comedy, and the ambiance inducing photos and decorations from the Blues Museum.
Since opening the restaurant, WGN’s “Hungry Hound” featured Maurice in a cooking segment with emphasis on fried chicken. That menu item was voted the “best fried chicken” in the city of Chicago in 2011 by the Chicago Tribune, the “Mancow” Show, and many other media outlets.
